Generalmente risulta essere una cattiva idea fare delle previsioni su cosa non si potrebbe fare, specialmente nel campo della scienza e tecnologico. In particolare di seguito vengono riportate le più belle “baggianate” dette da personaggi di un certo spessore:

• “I think there is a world market for maybe five computers.” — Thomas Watson, rappresentante of IBM, 1943.

• “I have traveled the length and breadth of this country and talked with the best people, and I can assure you that data processing is a fad that won’t last out the year.” — Il redattore incaricato del commercio dei libri per la Prentice Hall, 1957.
• “But what…is it good for?” — Ingegneri della Advanced Computing Systems Division of IBM, 1968, commentando un microchip.
• “There is no reason anyone would want a computer in their home.” — Ken Olson, presidente e fondatore of Digital Equipment Corp., 1977.
• “640K ought to be enough for anybody.” — Attribuita a Bill Gates, 1981, ma si pensa che sia una leggenda urbana.
• “The wireless music box has no imaginable commercial value. Who would pay for a message sent to nobody in particular?” — detta da David Sarnoff a riguardo di un eventuale investimento nelle radio nel 1920s.
• “Who the hell wants to hear actors talk?” — H. M. Warner, Warner Brothers, 1927.
• “We don’t like their sound, and guitar music is on the way out.” — Decca Recording Co. respingendo i Beatles, 1962.
• “Everything that can be invented has been invented.” — attribuita a Charles H. Duell, Commissioner, U.S. Office of Patents, 1899, ma si presume che sia una leggenda urbana.
